Technical committee formed to oversee e-commerce sector

The commerce ministry has formed a high-powered technical committee for the greater interest of the country’s e-commerce sector.

To this effect, the ministry issued an order on Monday.

The committee has been formed with an eye to solving all the problems regarding digital commerce, business, consumers, sellers’ payment, and other technical issues.

Besides, the committee will provide all the required technical suggestions to the commerce ministry as and when needed. The committee will also hold a meeting once a month if needed.

Additional Secretary and Director General (DG) of the WTO cell of the commerce ministry Md Hafizur Rahman is the convener of the 16-member committee.

Representatives from the Finance Division and Financial Institutions Division under the finance ministry, Public Security Division, Information, and Communication Technology Division, Local Government and Co-operative Division, Bangladesh Police, Rapid Action Battalion or RAB, Bangladesh Bank, Directorate of National Consumer Rights Protection, Bangladesh Completion Commission, Access to Information (a2i) Programme, cybercrime (intelligent cell), Bangladesh Association of Software and Information Services (BASIS), and e-Commerce Association of Bangladesh.

One deputy secretary of the central digital commerce cell under the commerce ministry will be the member secretary.
