New Zealand shares end edge up

New Zealand shares ended slightly higher on Wednesday, supported by consumer staples and utility stocks.

The benchmark S&P/NZX 50 index rose 0.2 per cent or 16.27 points to finish the session at 7949.69.

Dairy company A2 Milk, the biggest percentage gainer, lifted the index the most and ended the day up 5.1 per cent, reports Reuters.

Meanwhile, home builder Fletcher Building Ltd was the biggest drag on the Kiwi benchmark index, falling as much as 2.4 per cent before recovering marginally to close down 1.1 per cent.
