Stocks soar; DSEX jumps in early trading

The prices of most of the shares on bourses witnessed upward trend in early hour of trading on Thursday as investors are active on sector-wise issues amid growing confidence.

Market analysts said the investors are taking fresh position expecting better days ahead riding on political stability and more sound business activities as the election held peacefully.

Following the previous nine day’s gain, the Dhaka Stock Exchange (DSE) and the Chittagong Stock Exchange (CSE) opened higher amid rising trading activities.

Within first 15 minutes of trading, the key index of the country’s prime bourse advanced more than 32 points while the CSE All Share Price Index (CASPI) of port city’s bourse rose 43 points at 10:45am.

After 30 minutes of trading, the DSEX advanced more than 37 points while the CSE All Share Price Index (CASPI) of port city’s bourse gained 65 points at 11:00am when the report was filed.

DSEX, the prime index of the DSE, went up by 37.77 points or 0.68 per cent to stand 5,534 points at 11:00am.

The DS30 index, comprising blue chips, also rose 9.54 points to reach at 1,922 points till then.

The DSE Shariah Index also advanced 8.31 points to stand at 1,258 points.

Turnover, the important indicator of the market, stood at Tk 1.48 billion on DSE when the report was filed at 11:00am.

Shepherd Industries was the most traded stocks till then with shares worth Tk 102 million changing hands, closely followed by Bangas, JMI Syringes United Power and Shurwid Industries.

Of the issues traded till then, 233 advanced, 37 declined and 39 remained unchanged on the DSE trading floor.

The port city’s bourse – the Chittagong Stock Exchange – (CSE), also saw upward trend till then with CSE All Share Price Index- CASPI-advancing 65 points to stand at 16,928 points, also at 11:00am.

The Selective Category Index – CSCX –also gained 38 points to stand at 10,232 points till then.

Of the issues traded till then, 69 gained, 14 declined and 20 issues remained unchanged with Tk 76 million in turnover.
