Stocks open marginally higher in choppy trading

Stocks opened on a positive trend on Thursday as bargain hunters were active on sector-wise issues.

Within the first hour into trade, DSEX advanced more than 24 points while the CSE All Share Price Index (CASPI) of port city’s bourse gained 79 points at 11:00 when the report was filed.

DSEX, the prime index of the DSE, went up by 24.12 points or 0.43 per cent to stand 5,512 points till then.

The DS30 index, comprising blue chips, also gained 22.86 points to reach at 2,115 and the Shariah Index (DSES) rose 5.26 points to stand 1,247 points till then.

Turnover, another important indicator of the market, stood at Tk 1.86 billion within the first hour of trading at 11:00 am.

Of the issues traded till then, 107 advanced, 99 declined and 102 remained unchanged.

Robi was the most traded stock till then with shares worth Tk 237 million changing hands, followed by Beximco, eGeneration, Beximco Pharma and BATBC.

The port city’s bourse – the Chittagong Stock Exchange – (CSE) saw a positive trend till then with CSE All Share Price Index- CASPI- gaining 79 points to stand at 15,995, also at 11:00 am.

Of the issues traded till then, 36 gained, 41 declined, and 26 issues remained unchanged with Tk 97 million in turnover.
