Some major vegetables get pricier in Dhaka’s kitchen markets

Prices of some major vegetables have witnessed a hike in Dhaka's kitchen markets on Tuesday compared to Monday’s prices, augmenting the woes of consumers further.

However, prices of some other vegetables including potato, tomato and carrots remained static.

Meanwhile, prices of sugar, edible oil, and other essentials have not changed.

Brinjal, bean, ladies’ finger, bitter gourd, yardlong bean and pointed gourd saw a hike ranging from Tk 10 to Tk 6.0 per kg.

After visiting some of the city kitchen markets, this correspondent found that prices of onion, ginger, garlic, Sonali and Pakistani chicken, egg, and other different essential spices remained stable compared to the last couple of days.

A vegetable vendor Maksedul at Adabor Kitchen Market told The Financial Express that prices of some vegetables like Brinjal, bean, ladies’ finger, bitter gourd and pointed gourd went up by Tk 10 to Tk 6.0per kg on Tuesday compared to Monday’s prices.

The wholesale price of bitter gourd was between Tk 300 to Tk 350 per five kg today whereas it was Tk 250 to Tk 300 per five kg yesterday, he said, adding that he was retailing bitter gourd at Tk 70 to Tk 80 per kg.

He bought long brinjal at Tk 250 per five kg at wholesale price from Karwan Bazar on Tuesday whereas it was sold at Tk 220 Monday. He was retailing the vegetable at Tk 60 to Tk 70 per kg.

He bought ladies finger at Tk 250 per five kg today whereas it was Tk 220 five kg yesterday. He was selling at Tk 60-Tk 70 per kg at retail price on the day.

Pointed gourd was being sold at Tk 130 at wholesale price today which was Tk 100 yesterday, he says.

Bean was being sold at Tk 600 today at wholesale price while it was sold at Tk 500 to Tk 550 per five kg yesterday. He was selling beans at Tk 120 to Tk 130 each kg.

Yardlong bean was being sold at Tk 300 per five kg at wholesale price today whereas it was Tk 250 per five kg yesterday.

Some other vegetable vendors at Adabor, Mohammadpur Krishi Market along with some mobile vendors also echoed the same price level.
