A leader of Feni district Awami League has blamed lawmaker Nizam Uddin Hazari for recent attack on BNP Chairperson Khaleda Zia's convoy last month.

Azharul Haque Arzu, a leaders of Feni district AL, has claimed Hazari was behind the attack. Hazari is the general secretary of AL's Feni unit.

Azhar made the allegation at a press conference at the Jatiya Press Club in Dhakaon Wednesday.

"The recant attack on BNP chairperson's convoy was planned one," he claimed.

Azhar alleged that the vehicles of DBC, Channel i, Ekattor and Boishakhi TV, Prothom Alo and The Daily Star were damaged after targeting those selectively.

"Nizam Hazari did it with his cadres to take revenge for filing news reports against him," he said.

The local AL leader also accused the member of parliament of indulging in killing, corruption, siphoning off money abroad and harassing his opponents filing 'false' cases against them.

Azhar also alleged that many party leaders and activists and he himself cannot stay in their locality in fear of Nizam Hazari's possible wrath.

"All sorts of misdeeds are taking place in Feni at the behest of Nizam Hazari and another influential AL leader," he said.

According to UNB, Azhar said he has already lodged complaints against the MP with party's central general secretary Obaidul Quader and some other leaders.

On October 28, some unruly youths attacked BNP Chairperson Khaleda Zia's convoy near Mohammad Ali Bazar in Feni Sadar on her way to Cox's Bazar to visit Rohingya camps.

The attackers damaged a good number of vehicles, including microbuses of Channel i, DBC, Ekattor, and Baishakhi Television, and beat several newsmen and leaders and activists of BNP who were coming with Khaleda Zia to Cox's Bazar.
