International convention on Quality Control Management to start in Dhaka

FE Online Report | Sunday, 29 November 2020

Japan’s International Convention on Quality Control Management will be held in Dhaka from December 01.

Bangladesh Society for Total Quality Management (BSTQM) will organise the event, says a press release.

The main purpose of the convention is to ensure self-development and mutual progress by making improvements in the organisations, their products and services, and their workers’ health and safety.

This year, the conference will be a three-day event starting from December 01. It will be held at the Pan Pacific Sonargaon Hotel, Dhaka. The inauguration ceremony is scheduled on December 02.

The Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina is expected to be virtually present via video conference as the chief guest to inaugurate the conference.

The theme of the convention is ‘Unlocking Imagination through QCC.’ The chief speaker Professor Dr Noriaki Kano, one of the top quality experts in the world, will present the core theme of the convention, ‘Kano Model as a Method for Unlocking Imagination through Quality.’

Around 2,000 delegates will join this conference. 269 case studies on varied topics including Kizen, Total Quality Management, Six Sigma, Lean Manufacturing, Creativity Management, Cross Function Deployment, and others will be presented in this three-day long event.

This year, 14 countries including Bangladesh, India, Japan, China, will attend the conference. The organiser of the conference BSTQM will represent Bangladesh. BSTQM became a member of the convention in 1997. Apart from the member countries, representatives from non-member countries will also join the event.

Five quality control circles from Zambia, in association with JICA, will participate and present case studies in the conference.

This convention originated from the movement of Quality Control Circle (QCC) in Japan in the ‘60s decade. The movement played a seminal role in developing the country’s war-stricken economy. At present, 72 countries are involved in QCC activities. The convention is arranged every year by different countries. Last year, it was arranged in Tokyo, Japan.

BSTQM expects that this year’s convention will present impactful suggestions about quality management and pave the way for the organisational development of the participant countries. “Our mission is to promote a quality culture in every sphere of life in order to bring peace and happiness in society,” said AKM Shamsul Huda, acting president of BSTQM, about the ensuing event.
