GPU prices dropping - find the best value for money options

Fardeen Kabir | Wednesday, 27 April 2022

GPU prices have just started to become stable, we have seen the news of price drops around the world, however, they are still ‘high’ if not ‘sky high’ right now.

It’s still not recommended to buy a GPU if you have some sort of GPU to continue with, and it is expected that GPU prices will soar even further in the coming days.

Having said that, if you really need to buy a GPU right now on an emergency basis, there are some potential options for you in the market. Remember, GPU prices are still high and there are almost no feasible options between Tk 25000 - Tk 35000 range, and buying a feasible mid-range GPU is still mostly out of the question.

Here are 3 market recommendations for you if you have an emergency and the cash to spare.

MSI GeForce GTX 1650 4GB GDDR6:

If you are building an entry-level 1080p gaming setup with a new GPU, then this is the best option for you in the market.

The Nvidia GTX 1650 performs similar to the newly released AMD RX 6500xt, but the Nvidia card offers more output ports, better video encoding ( the RX 6500XT doesn’t come with any sort of encoding software, meaning you can’t run video editing software on this card), and a cheaper price.

This particular card is priced at Tk 20000, which is still Tk 5000 cheaper than the AMD card. Ideally, both the Nvidia and AMD cards should have been priced around Tk 14000.

XFX Speedster SWFT 210 Radeon RX 6600 Core 8GB GDDR6:

The AMD Radeon RX 6600 is a solid GPU on its own, and it's cheaper than the Nvidia RTX 3050 while performing better than the Nvidia card in any game you can come up with.

The mid-range section in our GPU market, at least currently, is non-existent and if you want anything new to play games at high or ultra detail at 1080p, you’d have to spend around Tk 40000.

This particular card is priced at Tk 39000, and this is right now the ‘value champ’ performance GPU in the market, considering it gives similar performance to the Nvidia RTX 2070, which is priced at a much higher MRP.

Palit GeForce RTX 3060 Dual 12GB GDDR6:

At Tk 49900, this is the most affordable High-end GPU that can game on both 1440p and 4k.

It is understandable if you cringed at the relatively unknown brand name ‘Palit,’ but the online community is surprisingly positive about this brand’s GPUs.

Users from the communities like the subreddit r/buildapc or Tom’s Hardware Forum have given positive reviews about Palit’s GPUs, stating that there’s no particular reason to worry about this brand.

So it is recommended that you take the market advantage of going for this cheaper GPU as the other RTX 3060 GPUs are priced at much higher MRP.

If you do not find it in the market, the next best higher-end card you can go for is the Sapphire NITRO+ AMD Radeon RX 6600 XT 8GB GDDR6 Graphics Card.

As for the final recommendation, do not go for the new GTX 1650 super/1660 super/1660 ti cards as they are priced at laughably high prices whereas cards like the RX 6600 give much superior performance having similar price ranges.
