FBCCI pushes for more FTAs

FE REPORT | Tuesday, 7 February 2023

The Federation of Bangladesh Chambers of Commerce and Industry (FBCCI) has urged the government to sign more free trade agreements (FTAs) and preferential trade agreements (PTAs) with different countries and regional blocks.

It feels Bangladesh will face challenges after the country's graduation to middle-income country from least developed country (LDC) in 2026.

The apex trade body made the observation during the second meeting of its standing committee on "International Affairs, International Trade Bodies, Development Partners and Strategic Partners" held at its Motijheel office in the capital on Monday.

Speaking as the chief guest at the meeting, Vice President of FBCCI MA Momen said that the country should start work from now on regarding the country's LDC graduation.

He called upon businesspeople from different sectors to come forward in this regard. He said that FBCCI is working hard for the success of the Bangladesh Business Summit next month.

Another VP of FBCCI Md Amin Helaley emphasised putting the country's businesses on the right track. He also called for signing trade agreements with different countries and regional cooperation agreements.
