Ethnic Language Centre to be launched at Begum Rokeya University

An ‘Ethnic Language Center’ will be launched soon at Begum Rokeya University, Rangpur (BRUR) with the aim of preserving and developing languages of small ethnic groups scattered in different parts of the country.

Vice-Chancellor (VC) of BRUR Professor Dr. Nazmul Ahsan Kalimullah made the declaration while addressing a discussion arranged virtually in observance of the ‘Shaheed Dibash and the International Mother Language Day-2021′ at BRUR on Sunday.

Wreaths were placed on behalf of the Vice-chancellor, Pro VC Prof Dr. Sarifa Salowa Dina, and Treasurer Prof Dr. Hasibur Rashid at the university’s Shaheed Minar at one minute past midnight paying respect to the language movement martyrs, reports BSS.

At the morning, the national flag was hoisted at half-mast on the university campus followed by observance of one-minute silence.

Deans of different faculties, heads of different departments, leaders of Begum Rokeya University Teachers’ Association and Officers’ Association, officials and employees, leaders of different students’ organisations placed wreaths at the Shaheed Minar.

Later, Prof Kalimullah attended the virtual discussion as the chief guest with Pro VC Prof Sarifa Salowa Dina in the chair.

Moderated by Provost of Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman Hall of BRUR Tabiur Rahman Prodhan, Treasurer of the university Prof Dr. Hasibur Rashid addressed the discussion as the special guest.

The administrator of the Public Relations, Information and Publication Division of BRUR Prof Dr. Nazmul Haque presented the keynote essay.

A milad mahfil followed by offering special munajats was arranged at the central mosque of the university after the Johr prayers seeking divine blessings for the departed souls of the language movement martyrs.

Paying rich tribute to Father of the National Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman, martyrs of the language movement and War of Liberation, the speakers recalled the glorious contribution of teachers and students during the language movement.

The chief guest said the Shaheed Dibash and International Mother Language Day has brought a unique honour to the nation and become a symbol of unity and victory for protecting mother languages of all people across the globe.

He called upon all concerned, especially the young generations, to uphold the honour of Bengali language by ensuring its proper use at all levels.
