Bangladesh reports 95 virus deaths, 4,280 new cases in 24 hours

Bangladesh has registered 95 new fatalities from the coronavirus in a day, taking the death toll to 10,683.

The caseload surged to 732,060 after 4,280 people tested positive for COVID-19 in the 24 hours to 8:00am Wednesday, according to data released by the government.

Another 7,072 people recovered from the illness through treatment at home and in hospital care, bringing the tally of recoveries to 635,183.

As many as 28,408 samples were tested across the country in the last 24 hours, yielding a positivity rate of 15.07 per cent.

The latest official figures put the recovery rate at 86.77 per cent, while the mortality rate stands at 1.46 per cent.

Globally, over 142.97 million people have been infected by the novel coronavirus and 3.04 million have died, according to a tally by Johns Hopkins University.

Infections have been reported in more than 210 countries and territories since the first cases were identified in China in December 2019, reports bdnews24.com.
