Road Transport and Bridges Minister Obaidul Quader on Tuesday urged the local and international aid agencies to forward in order to ensure proper sanitation and safe drinking water in the Rohingya camps in Cox’s Bazar camps.

"Quality sanitation and safe drinking water is very essential for the Rohingya refugees, ousted from their homes in the Rakhine state in the face of ethnic cleansing by the Myanmar troops," he said.

Qauder made the call while opening the Durga Puja festival at Indrasen Temple, as per a report on state-owned BSS.

The minister, also AL general secretary, said Ukhia and Teknaf people showed their highly appreciable sympathy for the Rohingya refugees.

"Without the local people's cooperation, relief and other rehabilitation works could be difficult for the large number of Rohingya refugees," he added.

He said coordination among the local people, local representatives, political workers, social and cultural organisations and civil administration along with the army and the BGB helped a lot in improving the relief management.

Later, the minister inaugurated the Durga Puja festival by lighting up the pradip (Lamp).
