Zia family's corruption already proved: Obaidul Quader

Awami League General Secretary Obaidul Quader has claimed that corruption allegations against Zia family were already proved and there is no need to prove it again.

"The corruption of Zia family were already proved in the courts of Singapore, United States, but they did not seek apology to countrymen," he added.

He urged the Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) to bring the Zia family under trial after investigation.

The Road Transport and Bridges Minister came up with the statement at a press conference at AL chief's Dhanmondi office in Dhaka on Saturday.

Earlier on Friday, BNP Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir had accused Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina of disseminating ‘false and defamatory’ information about foreign assets of BNP Chairperson Khaleda Zia and her family members.

According to UNB, Fakhrul also urged PM to apologise to avoid legal action.

Referring to Fakhrul's comments, Obaidul Quader said that BNP leaders would face legal actions if they fail to prove their claim of corruption in Padma Multipurpose Bridge and Metro Rail projects against Awami League.

"We will file cases against the BNP leaders if they fail to prove their allegations againstus."

'Doing corruption is the character of BNP," Quader said, adding that "Go to the ACC office and prove that your leader is not corrupt."

AL's joint general secretaries Dipu Moni, Jahangir Kabir Nanak and Abdur Rahman, organising secretary Khalid Mahmud Chowdhury, attended the press conference, among others.
