BNP presses partymen for door to door visit

BNP Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir has asked his party leaders and activists to go to door to door to mobilise people's support.

He also asked his party colleagues to get united, organised and disciplined to join the next polls under a neutral government through waging a street movement.

"We'll have to first get united and make our organisation stronger. We must join the election waging a movement and ensure our victory in it," he said.

The BNP bigwig came up with the comments on Monday while speaking at a discussion arranged by Dhaka city north unit BNP at the Institution of Engineers, Bangladesh marking the 53rd birthday of party senior vice-chairman Tarique Rahman.

He also warned the BNP leaders and activists that they would not get success in the movement if they failed to maintain discipline. "It's not possible to win any war or movement without discipline. A disciplined force is the key to success in any movement."

According to a UNB report, the BNP leader said there is no point of raising slogans in favour of the party and its leaders. "We must get organised, and go to door to door to mobilise people's support and tell them about the failures and misrule of the government."

Mentioning that the country is facing a serious crisis for lack of a representative government, he said holding a credible and inclusive election is the only way to get rid of it.

Fakhrul said the government is dreaming of staying in power until 2041 by force and holding lopsided polls. "We don't have any objection, if they remain in office with people's mandate through fair balloting, but you don't have the courage to hold a fair election."

He said the current parliament must be dissolved before the next general election. "A fair election won't be possible keeping the current parliament functional."

The BNP leader said the country's people will force the government this time to hold the election under a non-party neutral administration.
