State-run jute mill workers in Dhaka and Khulna, most of whom have been unpaid for six to 13 weeks, continued their agitation for the fourth day demanding their pay and arrears.

At Dema in the capital, they in several thousands from Latif Bawani Jute Mill and Karim Jute Mill staged their protest since 9:00am.

Wielding sticks, the workers were seen chanting slogans in favour of a set of their demands, including implementation of the Wage Commission of 2015.

They also put up several blockades on the roads in the areas adjacent to where they held their protests on Thursday, especially on Sultana Kamal bridge area, causing sufferings to the commuters.

In Khulna, local media reports say, the workers also stayed away from their duty in the morning, showing no lesser of resolution in their relentless agitation.

They also announced to stage demonstrations at Natun Rastar Mor, Kabir Bat Tala, Daulatpur and Khalishpur in the city from 4:00pm.

Bangladesh Jute Mill Corporation accounts for 23 jute and three non-jute mills having an estimated 70,000 workers.
