SYLHET, Dec 15: As water has started receding from canals and small rivers across the Sylhet region villagers get engaged in traditional mass fishing in a festive mood in different places during the winter.

Such an event named 'Polo Bawa' (Fishing with a traditional fishing trap) was held in Kontinala river of Juri upazila in Moulvibazar district today. It was the last day of Bengali month Agrahayan.

Polo Bawa is well practiced throughout the region for ages as a traditional event. Enthusiastic people, especially the young ones in good number join it while many others enjoy it.

Several thousand locals, including amateur fishermen and others as well as many expatriates took part at the event.

The upazila chairman MA Muyeed Faruque, Upazila Nirbahi Officer Ashim Chandra Banik and Jaifarnagar union parishad chairman Masum Reza attended the day-long event.
