DU gets largest portrait of Bangabandhu installed

Bangladesh Charushilpi Sangsadon Tuesday installed a 43-foot high portrait of Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman at Dhaka University's famous Teacher-Student Center (TSC) paying tribute to the nation's founder on his 43rd death anniversary.

Commerce Minister Tofael Ahmed inaugurated what is said to be the largest ever portrait of Bangabandhu.

With Bangladesh Charushilpi Sangsad president Jamal Ahmed in the chair, among other, DU vice chancellor Prof Akhtaruzzaman, sculpture Rabiul Hossain, Hasem Khan and Kamal Pasha Chowdhury were present on the occasion.

More than 150 painters took part to create the portrait. The work of portrait started from August 1 to 13 at TSC auditorium and Swimming Pool Chattar of DU.

The height of the portrait (43 feet) has been set according to the 43th death anniversary of the Father of the Nation, reports UNB.

After inaugurating the portrait, Tofael, one of those who as a student leader became close said, "When I was sitting here and looked up at portrait of Bangabandhu drawn by Bangladesh Charushilpi Sangsad, for a moment it seemed that I was sitting before him like 1971".
