Customs officials have recovered dozens of gold biscuits hidden underneath an airplane seat at Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport in the capital Dhaka.

They, however, could not arrest anybody in this connection.

An assistant commissioner of customs, Saiful Islam said, tipped off, a preventive team of Dhaka Customs House conducted a drive in an aircraft of US-Bangla Airlines, which arrived in Dhaka from Singapore at about 8:00am.

He said they found 40 gold biscuits, weighing 4.64kg in total, in a bag attached to the underside of the plane seat. The market price of the gold is approximately Tk 23 million.

The Dhaka airport often sees gold seizures with the last – two kilograms of gold worth Tk 11 million – just a week ago, that is too on Monday.
