The government plans to implement a project to resolve the waterlogging problem in Chittagong port city.

Local Government, Rural Development and Cooperatives (LGRD) Minister Khandker Mosharraf Hossain came up with the statement on Sunday.

"The waterlogging problem of the port city must be resolved at any cost as it is the heart of our economy," he said.

The minister was presiding over a meeting on 'Re-dredging, expansion, reformation and development of canals to resolve waterlogging in Chittagong city' at the secretariat.

He also directed the Chittagong Development Authority(CDA), Chittagong City Corporation, local Water Development Board, and Chittagong WASA to find out a practical and visible solution of the problem by December next.

After implementation of the project to be approved by the CDA, Chittagong City Corporation will take care of it, reports UNB.

Involvement of others like Bangladesh Water Development Board and Chittagong WASA is also very important in the project implementation, he added.
