A pickup van's driver and helper were killed as the vehicle went out of control and turned upside down on Dhaka-Sylhet road at Lalbar in South Surma upazila on Wednesday afternoon.

The deceased have been identified as Al-Amin, son of Sundar Ali hailing from Sadhurgaon village in Biswanath upazila and the helper Samsuddin, 17, son of Abul, resident of Gabindapur village of the same upazila.

Locals in the area around Otirbari in Lalbar said the pickup van was seen going upside down around 2:00pm, leaving Al-Amin dead on the spot and Samsuddin severely injured, right after crossing a motorcycle coming from the opposite direction. Later, they took Samsuddin to Sylhet Osmani Medical College Hospital where he succumbed to his injury, according to a UNB report.
