Housewife ‘burnt to death’ in Tangail

A housewife, who suffered burn injuries allegedly inflicted by her in-laws at Nardahi Charpara village in Kalihati Upazila early Wednesday, died at the burn unit of Dhaka Medical College Hospital (DMCH) on Wednesday, reports UNB.

The deceased was identified as Shapla Begum, 22, wife of Rabbi Islam and daughter of Bellal Hossain of the same village.

Locals said hearing the victim’s screams around 1 am, they rushed there and found unconscious Shapla severely burnt.

Later, she was taken to Tangail General Hospital. As her condition deteriorated, she was referred to DMCH.

Later, the victim succumbed to her injuries at DMCH.

However, when contacted, Mir Mosharraf Hossain, officer-in-charge of Kalihati Police Station, said they did not receive any complaint till filing of this report.

Mother of the deceased Marjina Begum claimed Shapla’s husband used to torture her for dowry very often.
