Driver loses control, ploughs into Faridpur pedestrians, killing three

Three pedestrians were crushed under a bus when it plunged into a roadside ditch in Bhobokdia area of Nagarkanda upazila on Dhaka-Barisal highway on Tuesday morning.

The deceased were identified as Wazed Chokder (65), Rakibul Hasan (25), and Meherun Nesa (55), residents of Bari Dangi union, reports UNB.

The accident took place around 11:00am as the Dhaka-bound ‘Sonartari Paribahan’ bus skidded off the ditch running over the pedestrians after its driver lost control over the steering, said Ejaj Uddin, the Officer-in-Charge of Bhanga Highway Police Station.

Three pedestrians were crushed under the bus and 15 bus passengers injured in the incident, added the OC.

On information, highway police and fire fighting team went to the spot and continued rescue drive.

The injured were admitted to Faridpur Medical College and Hospital.

The bus passengers alleged that the driver was talking over mobile phone while driving.
