Bogra curd producers make high profit during Eid festival

BOGRA, Sept 06: Curd producers of Bogra district are making high profit during the Eid occasion.
According the local source, around 400 small, middle and big curd industry have been set up in all twelve upazila of the district to mitigate the scarcity of the goods. They artisans prepare the tasty food item comfortably round the year but they keep themselves so much busy in two Eid festivals.
The artisans of the profession are also passing busy time to produce adequate supply of the food item across the district. The demand of the goods is increasing gradually elsewhere the country like previous year. Everyday, they use a minimum of 30,000 kgs of milk to produce around 15,000 kgs of the item.
The curd, which was sold at Tk 150 to Tk 170 a kg, is being sold from Tk 200 to Tk 250 per kg in the retail market while Tk 190 to Tk 220 in the wholesale markets round the clock during the festival. The curd producers said increasing market price of milk is the main reason of the high rate of the item.
Each maund of milk was being sold across the district from Tk 1500 to Tk 1600 before Eid but Tk 2000 to Tk 2400 during the Eid festival. Besides, the earthen pots, where curd is supply to sell, is being sold at high rate due to frequent flood situation in Dupchanchia, Sadar, Kahaloo, Adamdighi, Nandigram and Sibganj upazilas of the district.
"I have already supplied a minimum of 500 kgs of the food item during the season and made a profit of Tk 0.12 million already," said trader Abu Raihan under Dupch-anchia upazila.
