Bangladesh will get 3.5 million doses of COVID-19 vaccine, developed by AstraZeneca and Oxford University and manufactured by Serum Institute of India, in two separate consignments from India on Thursday.

Foreign Minister AK Abdul Momen gave the information while talking to reporters after attending a lecture at Foreign Service Academy in the capital on Wednesday.

The minister said that the Indian government will send 2.0 million doses of the vaccine of the Serum Institute as a gift on Thursday.

On the same day, a private company will bring another 1.5 million vaccine doses from the same manufacturer.

Asked whether Bangladesh is opting for vaccines from other sources, the minister said that several countries including Russia and China expressed its interest to provide vaccines to Bangladesh.

“There are some private companies which are in talks to import vaccines from other sources,” he added.
