Bangladesh for involving maximum number of agencies to send workers to Malaysia

Bangladesh wants to involve as many authorised recruiting agencies as possible in the process of sending workers to Malaysia.

However, the two countries are yet to decide on the issue, said Imran Ahmad, Minister for Expatriates’ Welfare and Overseas Employment, to a group of journalists on Wednesday after a joint working committee meeting with Malaysia.

Imran Ahmad and Malaysian Minister of Human Resources Saravanan Murugan led the delegations of their respective sides during the two-day meeting.

The virtual meeting also discussed other issues regarding migration cost and the protection of migrant workers.

There is a small chance that the Malaysian market will open unless the Covid-19 situation improves there, Imran Ahmad said.

Replying to a query, the minister said the Malaysian minister has decided to bring back the returnee workers who came home on leave before starting Covid-19 pandemic.

Bangladesh minister also said they are trying to send workers from Bangladesh at a lower cost as well as ensure protection.

He said Malaysia needs workers in different sectors including plantation and construction. They are working to ensure a trouble-free migration process.

Ahmed Munirus Saleheen, secretary of expatriates’ welfare ministry, was also present at the press conference.
