BNP nominated candidate Ariful Haque Chowdhury has won the mayoral polls of Sylhet City Corporation.
According to official results, Ariful got the victory defeating Awami League candidate Badar Uddin Ahmed Kamran by 6,196 votes.
Returning Officer Md Alimuzzaman on Saturday said Ariful bagged 92,593 votes and his nearest rival, Kamran, got 86,397 votes in 134 polling stations, reports bdnews24.com.
The election commission suspended voting in two polling centres out of 134 in Sylhet on allegations of irregularities during the election on July 30.
Later, the EC decided to hold voting in two centres on Saturday.
Ariful also served as mayor of Sylhet City Corporation in the previous term.
