Bangladesh Road Transport Authority (BRTA) published a new fare chart for various long-distance routes of road transports on Monday, revising upwards the rates due to the latest price hike of fuel oils.

The regulatory body published the chart, signed by its deputy director Subrata Kumar Devnath, on its website.

According to the chart, the passenger fare for diesel-run buses and mini-buses operating on the inter-district and long-distance routes has been fixed at Tk 2.20 per kilometre.

Accordingly, the chart has been prepared after taking into account the bridge tolls or ferry fares (where applicable) per passenger at each crossing in accordance with the distance received from the Roads and Highways Department (RHD) and the list of bridge tolls and ferry fares received from the RHD, BIWTC and Bangladesh Bridge Authority.

In case the amount of fare is too low or too high for some quarters, the BRTA has requested them to contact it with reliable information and evidence so that the fare can be corrected if necessary, the BRTA said in its web posting.

It also said that if any person or organisation arranges comfortable travel by reducing the seats of buses and minibuses, then necessary measures will be taken by BRTA to increase the fare at a proportional rate.

The BRTA also requested the secretary-general/general secretary of Bangladesh Road Transport Association, chairman/secretary general of Bangladesh Bus-Truck Owners Association to make available the new fare chart among their stakeholders and take necessary measures to ensure that the prescribed fares are realized from the passengers.

The new fares for buses and minibuses were decided in a meeting at the BRTA office at Banani in the capital on Saturday last. It decided to raise the fare of city services by 35 paisa per km and 40 paisa for long distance services.

However, the BRTA is yet to publish the fare chart for city services.
