The Migrant Resource Centre (MRC) has been launched in order to disseminate necessary information to ensure safe and orderly migration.

Bureau of Manpower Employment and Training (BMET) Director General (DG) Shahidul Alam NDC officially inaugurated the MRC’s activities at a city hotel on Monday.

The MRCs provide neutral and fact-based migration information, through a variety of platforms to migrants as well as those considering leaving the country to work or study as well as returnees.

Under the Improving Migration Management (IMM) project, the International Centre for Migration Policy Development (ICMPD) is operationalising the MRCs in Bangladesh, Afghanistan, Pakistan, Sri Lanka, Iraq, and Tajikistan.

The MRCs in Bangladesh is funded by the European Union and the Government of Switzerland, working in close cooperation with the Ministry of Expatriates’ Welfare and Overseas Employment.

In his opening remarks, the BMET DG said that the MRC was working jointly with the District Employment and Manpower Office in Dhaka and Cumilla in providing information through various platforms.

He said human trafficking and irregular migration would be reduced by these initiatives, and he hoped the ICMPD would establish more MRCs in other districts of Bangladesh as well.
