Chelsea sack Tuchel - every bit an unwise decision

Thomas Tuchel, the 49-year-old manager of Chelsea, has been sacked from the club following a 1-0 defeat against Dinamo Zagreb in the UEFA Champions League on Tuesday. The German had a relatively successful spell with the Blues, winning three trophies, which included the second ever Champions League Trophy for the club in the 2020–21 season.

Ever since Jose Mourinho in 2015, Tuchel has been the seventh manager that Chelsea has parted ways with. Despite arriving midway through the season, he appeared to be there to stay for a long time, owing to his success in his first season.

Chelsea's standing so far in the Premier League has not been up to the mark, and the club also underwent a few preseason woes due to not landing their transfer target.

But this drastic decision, undertaken by the Chelsea authorities, might be costly for them, as Tuchel seemed to acclimate Chelsea to his managerial philosophy, despite a few hiccups here and there.

Tuchel's neatness in defence combined with a tweaked version of German pressing turned out to be the brand of football Chelsea were associated with in the past couple of years. Although Chelsea has suffered a bit lately, it would have been more efficient for the management to put more trust in him as the team is currently rebuilding due to the loss of a few key players.

Chelsea's new ownership group has reached 100 days after taking over the club, and as per the club's official statement, they feel like it's the right time to make a transition and a new beginning. However, the club has also refused to comment further on this scenario until a new manager is appointed.

Tuchel has been under pressure since a poor start at the beginning of this season, reminding many at the club's helm of the problems faced by the club legend Frank Lampard in his brief stint at Chelsea. However, the club's new owners wanted to make some fresh starts, and it seems that Tuchel here has been the sacrificial goat.

Tuchel's sacking is a shock to Chelsea fans worldwide, who do not find him making any serious blunders that would lead to such a consequence. Although Chelsea is more likely to land a star manager quite soon, matching Tuchel's short but excellent legacy will be hard to accomplish.
