IGP directs impenetrable security during Durga Puja

Monday, 26 September 2022

Outgoing Inspector General of Police (IGP) Benazir Ahmed directed police members to ensure impenetrable security to ensure a festive celebration of Durga Puja.

Benazir Ahmed said this while attending a meeting on security regarding Durga puja celebration on Monday at the city's Police Headquarters, reports UNB.

He said police have taken up a three-tier security measure for pre Puja, during Puja celebrations and post Puja celebrations.

Puja Celebration Committees have been requested to install CCTV cameras at puja mandaps, allow handheld metal detectors and archway gates, arrange 24/7 volunteers, separate entrance and exit for men and women, ensure proper lighting at mandap and immersion spots, keep standby generators and not use loud noise during prayer call at mosques, he said.

People have been urged to call the national emergency service number 999 for any emergency during puja celebrations.

IGP also requested community police members and beat police officers to coordinate with the concerned puja celebration committees to ensure security.

This year Durga Puja will be celebrated in 32,168 puja mandaps across the country.
