The government is planning to plant 80 million more saplings to protect the country's environment.

Environment, Forest and Climate Change Minister Md Shahab Uddin made the disclosure while addressing an inaugural ceremony of newly constructed buildings of Eidgahbazar Girls' High School and Talimpur Baharpur High School at Eidgahbazar Girls' High School at Baralekha Upazila in Moulvibazar on Sunday while local government officials were also present.

The government planted 80 million saplings last year, the minister added.

He also said more trees should be planted to improve the environment of educational institutions, adding that “by planting trees together, we will be able to deal with the adverse effects of climate change.”

He said there is no substitute for planting trees to keep the environment cool and get enough oxygen, which is essential for life.

He instructed the present contractors and concerned officials to maintain the quality of the educational institution during the development of its infrastructure.

After the ceremony, the minister laid the foundation stone of Eidgah Bazar-Malishri-Maijamjuri-Road development work and inspected the development and renovation works of Juri-Fultala (Batuli) road in Juri Upazila.
