First of many cases over Banani inferno: DMP

A case has started over a deadly fire at a high-rise in Dhaka's Banani that claimed 26 lives and injured over 70 others on Thursday, the city police say.
The case was filed with Banani Police Station, said Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) Commissioner Asaduzzaman Mia at a programme in the city's Chawkbazar on Saturday.
He, however, did not say anything about the complainant of the case or the kind of accusations made in it, local media reports say.
"A regular case has been filed. Necessary steps will be taken after its investigation," said the DMP chief.
Just a day before, Inspector General of Police Mohammad Javed Patwary had said he was for having cases filed by some victim in this regard.
Asked about the case, SM Mostak Ahmed, deputy commissioner of Gulshan division, he declined to go into details about the case. "We will later reveal details."
On Thursday, a deadly fire ripped through the FR Tower in Banani, raising questions of fire safety measures in high-rises in the capital.
Dhaka, among the country's major cities, face the highest incidence of fire, which experts blame on notoriously lax safety standards.
A 2012 study by Bangladesh University of Engineering and Technology shows that most high-rise buildings in the capital do not have adequate fire safety systems.
