DAE takes initiative to grow hybrid cotton at Charghat

Department of Agriculture Extension (DAE) has undertaken enterprise to cultivate hybrid cotton in this current season under Charghat upazila of Rajshahi district.

The farmers of Matikata, Deopara and Kankanhat municipal areas of Godagari Upazila have shown more interest to bring new cropland under cotton cultivation commercially aiming more capital as they had made a good profit from the crops.

"I had cultivated cotton on three bighas of land last year spending Tk 21,000 and made over Tk 44, 000 as profit," said farmer Ibalal Hasan at Kankanhat area. He again said, "I have brought some six bighas of land under the lucrative crops in this season hoping for Tk 1, 50,000."

"To make the programme a grand success the government has provided quality seeds, measure fertilisers and adequate pesticides free of cost to the eager farmers." said sub-assistant agriculture officer Shahidul Alam Tipu. He also said, "The mushroom brick field is causing serious hamper for the cotton crops in the area."

Farmer Badal Hossain said, before planting this seed, the peasants should cultivate the soil well. The seed is to be completed by planting 1-15 June. The farmers need to use TSP, MOP, UREA, BARUN and ZINC fertilisers in the cropland. The farmer can harvest the crop after 160 days of its plantation.

Chief Commissioner of Cotton Development Board of Rajshahi (CCCDB) Mojid Al Shamim said the farmers have shown more interest to bring massive cropland under cotton cultivation instead of other vegetable.
