CFA Society awards 162 scholarships

CFA Society Bangladesh has awarded a total of 162 scholarships to CFA Level-I candidates for 2021.

Sponsored by CFA Institute of the USA, the scholarship programme which students get through a waiver of exam fees is equivalent to more than Tk 10 million.

The Chartered Financial Analyst (CFA) programme is a postgraduate professional certification offered internationally by the CFA Institute to investment and financial professionals.

It has the highest level of global legal and regulatory recognition of finance-related qualifications.

The programme covers a considerably wide range of topics relating to advanced investment analysis, security analysis, statistics, probability theory, fixed income, derivatives, economics, financial analysis, corporate finance, alternative investments, and portfolio management, and provides generalist knowledge in other areas of finance.

Each year, the CFA Institute offers this access and regulatory scholarship during September with the help of local societies.

CFA Institute access scholarship is a part of CFA Institute annual commitment to promote the highest standards of ethics, education and professional excellence in the investment management industry.

The scholarship will help enhance the accessibility of the CFA programme to a wider range of candidates and give them an opportunity to advance in their career.

Bangladesh Bank, Bangladesh Securities and Exchange Commission and Dhaka Stock Exchange received a total of 80 regulatory scholarships for the CFA Programme, which reduces their exam fee to US$350 from $1150.

And the 82 access scholarships went to general students, which reduces their exam registration cost to $250 from $1150, according to a press release issued Thursday.

The aggregate monetary value of access and regulatory scholarships allocated to Bangladesh is more than Tk 10 million this year. Bangladesh gets special allocation from the CFA Institute in this regard.

"This shows CFA Institute's strong commitment to help developing professionals from this market. We get a significant amount of scholarship every year in Bangladesh, which in my knowledge, is the highest by any professional body offered to the candidates from Bangladesh," said Md Shaheen Iqbal, President, CFA Society Bangladesh.

The access scholarship is open for anyone who wishes to pursue the CFA programme.

Bangladesh has around 130 qualified members of the CFA Society Bangladesh.
