Wednesday, 7 November 2018

Awami League (AL) general secretary Obaidul Quader has said twelve Islamic parties have assured Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina of their support so that she could return to power through the next parliament election, reports BSS.

"The Islamic parties have categorically said they will extend all-out cooperation so that Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina could come back to power," he said.

The AL leader made the comments while talking to reporters after emerging from a dialogue between the 14-party alliance and the 12 Islamic parties at Ganobhaban in the city.

Quader said the leaders of the 12 prominent Islamic parties extended this support in the dialogue in a loud voice and the talks continued for nearly two hours.

"Every party has expressed its own opinion and raised some demands. But they clearly expressed their common views on upholding the spirit of the Liberation War and ideology of independence," he said.

The AL general secretary said there was no disagreement on any issue during the dialogue between them. He, however, said Khelafat Andolan demanded renaming a road in Dhaka after their late leader 'Maulana Hafezzi Hujur'.

Quader, also the road transport and bridges minister, said all leaders of the Islamic parties have extended their support for holding the elections as per the constitution.

The AL secretary said they will be a partner of the elections alongside extending their support.

Quader said leaders of the Islamic parties highly appreciated Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina for the way she ran the country for the last 10 years.

The AL general secretary said his party will start distribution of nomination forms from Friday ahead of the 11th national elections.

"The form will be distributed from the Awami League president's Dhanmondi office," he said.

Replying to a question about the outcome of the dialogue, Quader said Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina will speak in details about its outcome and inform her decisions in this regard through a press conference on November 08.

Prime Minister and Awami League President Sheikh Hasina led the 14-party alliance, while 52 leaders of 12 Islamic parties took part in the dialogue.

The parties included Islami Oikya Jote (IOJ), Bangladesh Khelfat Andolan, Bangladesh Muslim League, Bangladesh Jalali Party, Ashekine Awalia Oikya Parishad Bangladesh, Zaker Party, Bangladesh Jatiya Islami Jote (BNIA), Bangladesh Sammilito Islami Jote and Islamic Democratic Alliance.
