Vegetable growers happy with price

NAOGAON: Growers in the district are happy with the fair prices of different vegetables at the beginning of this Rabi season.

At the district wholesale kitchen markets, bean is being sold at Tk 100-110 per kg, brinjal at Tk 40-50 per kg, spinach at Tk 40-50 per kg, coriander leaves at Tk 70-80 per kg, arum-lobe at Tk 45-50 per kg, and cauliflower at Tk 30-40 per piece.

Department of Agriculture Extension (DAE) sources said a total of 2,580 hectares of land have been brought under vegetable cultivation in all eleven upazilas of the district this season.''

"The cultivated vegetables include bean, cauliflower, cabbage, brinjal, bottle gourd, bitter gourd, snake gourd, cowpea, tomato, carrot, radish, spinach and lal shak.

One Moynul Haque of Barshail village under Naogaon sadar upazila said, "I cultivated early variety of bean on my one bigha of land and I started harvesting the vegetable last month.''

"I am selling bean at a price ranging from Tk 100 to Tk 110 per kg which is very satisfactory. I also cultivated tomato, carrot and coriander on a portion of my land but they are yet to be harvested,'' he added.

Shamsul Wadud, deputy director of Naogaon DAE, said, "Favourable weather helped the farmers achieve a good output from this year's early variety vegetable cultivation.''

"We are glad to see that the farmers are getting good prices of their produces after a long time,'' Mr Wadud added.
