Vaccination in Bangladesh begins on January 27

Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina will inaugurate the vaccination programme in Dhaka city on January 27.

Some eminent citizens will get the doses first.

A consignment of 2.0-million doses of Oxford vaccine as gift from India reaches Bangladesh today (Thursday).

Later, vaccine will be provided to 400-500 caregivers working at four dedicated Covid-19 hospitals in Dhaka city as part of a dry run.

The hospitals are Kurmitola, Mugda, Kuwait Maitree and Dhaka Medical College Hospital.

Mass vaccination will start on February 08 after the first batch of 5.0-million doses bought under a procurement deal reaches Dhaka on January 25 or 26.

Today's consignment was supposed to come on Wednesday.

The vaccine will come on an Air India special flight. Health minister Zahid Maleque will receive it at the airport.

The disclosures were made during a press briefing at the Prime Minister's Office at Tejgaon. Health secretary Abdul Mannan briefed the press.

PMO principal coordinator (SDG affairs) Zuena Aziz chaired the programme where DGHS director general Prof ABM Khurshid Alam was also present.

Mr Mannan said no major side effects have been noticed in the takers of Oxford-Astrazeneca vaccine.
