Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina leaves for Cox’s Bazar to inspect Rohingya camps

Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina has left for Cox’s Bazar to distribute aid among Rohingya refugees fleeing violence in Myanmar.

 

Hasina left Dhaka on a Biman Bangladesh Airlines flight around 9:15am on Tuesday.

 

The prime minister is accompanied by Disaster Management and Relief Minister Mofazzal Hossain Chowdhury Maya, State Minister for Defence Mosharraf Hossain and State Minister for Land Saifuzzaman Chowdhury, reports bdnews24.

 

Hasina will travel by road to the Kutupalang refugee camp in Ukhia Upazila after landing at the Chittagong airport.

 

“The prime minister is working in earnest for a solution to the Rohingya crisis,” Road Transport and Bridges Minister Obaidul Quader said during an inspection of the refugee camp on Monday.

 

“She is holding several meetings with those involved. She will lay out the path toward a solution during her visit to the Kutupalang camp.”

 

The prime minister will also provide details on the steps taken by the diplomatic and international community to provide refuge to the Rohingyas, temporary housing and rehabilitation, strategies for the future and plans to return the Rohingyas home to Myanmar, he said.

 

Foreign diplomats working in Dhaka will travel to inspect the situation of the Rohingya refugees on Wednesday, Foreign Minister AH Mahmood Ali has said.
