BNP leaders alleged that entire nation has got badly affected through the resignation of Chief Justice Surendra Kumar Sinha.

The leaders also claimed that the government has obliterated the remaining independence of the judiciary as the Chief Justice was forced to resign.

BNP senior leaders Moudud Ahmed and Khandaker Mosharraf Hossain made the remarks on Saturday.

While addressing a discussion, Moudud said that, "We don't know what the government has gained through Sinha's resignation, but the entire nation has got badly affected. I'm in doubt whether we'll be able to restore the dignity and quality of the judiciary."

"The government has obliterated the remaining independence of the judiciary through it," he alleged.

The former law minister said the government took action against Sinha as the 16th amendment verdict went against it.

"The government could file a review petition against the verdict, but they harmed the judiciary with their coordinated personal attacks on Sinha," he alleged.

Speaking at another discussion,  Mosharraf said that, "It's unfortunate and shameful matter that the Chief Justice was sent on forced leave making him falsely sick and compelled him to quit by force."

Chief Justice Surendra Kumar Sinha went on leave on October 3 on health ground and left for Australia on October 13 and his 39-day leave expired on Friday.

According to UNB, the Chief Justice has sent the resignation letter on Saturday following criticisms over his verdict on the 16th amendment that scraps Parliament's powers to impeach judges.

Press Secretary to the President Md Joynal Abedin confirmed about receiving the letter on Saturday.
