Awami League (AL) General Secretary and Road Transport and Bridges Minister Obaidul Quader on Wednesday said BNP is hatching conspiracy to foil the upcoming election in the name of Election Commission’s reform.

He said: “Those who are talking about the Election Commission’s (EC’s) reform ahead of the election, we have to understand that they are trying to foil the polls”.

It is quite impossible to reconstitute the EC within a short time as the general election is knocking the door, Quader told reporters at the mausoleum of three leaders on the Dhaka University campus.

He paid tribute to veteran political leader Hussain Shaheed Suhrawardy placing a wreath at his graveyard on the occasion of his 55th death anniversary.

Responding to the recent remarks of BNP Senior Joint Secretary General Rizvi Ahmed over nomination cancellation, the AL general secretary said the government has no influence on the EC while it is working neutrally to select candidates.

“If you have any evidence about your allegation, show it to us…do not misguide the country’s people only raising allegations.”

Noting that BNP became the world champion in corruption five times, he said the federal court of Canada identified the party as a terrorist group, reports BSS.

AL Labour and Manpower Affairs Secretary Habibur Rahman Siraj, its Relief and Social Welfare Affairs Secretary Sujit Roy Nandi, Deputy Office Secretary Biplob Barua, and Central Executive Committee members SM Kamal Hossain and Anwar Hossain were, among others, present on the occasion.
