Obaidul Quader says BNP itself doesn’t know what it wants

Awami League (AL) General Secretary Obaidul Quader on Sunday said the BNP leaders themselves do not know what they want regarding the election-time government.

“It is now the question of the country’s people - what does the BNP really want? The BNP leaders themselves do not know what they want. Sometimes they want a caretaker government, sometimes neutral government and again they want a national government,” he told a press conference at his official residence in Dhaka, reports BSS.

Quader, also the road transport and bridges minister, said BNP secretary general Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir claimed that the people are now looking towards the BNP.

He said the people are not looking at the BNP as they know better than the BNP leaders always look at the directives coming from the bank of the Thames River in London.

The AL general secretary said the people have no reason to look at those who have failed in movements and elections and did not even hold a procession demanding the release of their chairperson.

Noting that today the people are confused seeing the different demands of the BNP leaders placed time to time, he said the BNP is now on the edge of a ditch due to its negative politics.

Responding to a statement of Fakhrul, Quader said the BNP, not the country and the nation, is passing a transition period.

Welcoming all the peaceful political programmes of the BNP, he said it would be good if the BNP come to the streets leaving its intrigues, being hatched abroad.

He warned the BNP leaders that if they carry out arson attacks, terrorist acts and attacks on the houses of minorities, and throw petrol bombs to burn people alive in the name of a movement, the government along with the country’s people will resist them with an iron hand to protect the assets of the people.

Quader said Mirza Fakhrul has repeatedly distorted the statement he (Quader) made over money laundering.

“Convicted fugitive BNP acting chairman Tarique Rahman syphoned off Taka 220.00 billion from Bangladesh. The Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) of the United States found it through investigation and gave testimony in a Bangladeshi court,” he said.

On behalf of the party, the AL general secretary conveyed heartfelt greetings and congratulations to the Buddhist community on the occasion of Buddha Purnima, their main religious festival.
