At least nine people, including a woman and her child, have died and three others sustained injuries as a bus collided with a microbus head-on in Chattogram in the early hours of Thursday.
All the dead and injured were in the microbus that has got twisted in the deadly accident.
The accident took place on the Chattogram-Cox’s Bazar highway at Chunati Jaillartek in Lohagara upazila around 1:15am, leaving eight people dead on the spot and four others injured, police say.
Immediately after the injured were rushed to Lohagara Upazila Health Complex, doctors declared one of them dead, said Anwarul Haque, in-charge of Chunati Police camp.
Six of them, including the mother and her child, have already been identified and the process to hand over to their relatives is going on, local media reports say.
The microbus driver is feared to be among three others yet to be identified, the reports add.
The bus involved in the accident is air conditioned and operated by Relax Paribahan. It was bound for Cox's Bazar from Dhaka.
The microbus that has got massively damaged, was bound for Chattogram.
Police have seized the bus and the microbus while the bus driver and his assistant have remained on the run.
