Natore road crash: Bus owner arrested

Police arrested the bus owner from Bogura on Sunday in a case filed over the fatal road accident in Natore that left 15 people dead.

The arrestee is Manju Sarker, the owner of 'Challenger Paribahan', was arrested from Madhya Palsa area of the district town around 12:30pm, reports UNB

The bus owner told police during primary interrogation that that he had bought the unfit BRTC bus at an auction and started to operate it on Kushtia-Bagura road after repairing.

Mofiz Uddin, manager (operation) of BRTC Bagura Bus Depot, said that there is no option of operating unfit and abandoned bus on road after its sale at auction.

Manju also revealed that the name of the bus driver is Shamim, a resident of Malgram and helper is Komol, a resident of Gokul village in Sada rupazila.

According his information, police conducted a drive to arrest the driver and the helper who went into hiding after the incident.

Meanwhile, another UNB report says, a case was filed against seven people over the fatal road accident.

The accused are the president of Bonpara Human Hauler (Leguna) Owners' Association, its secretary, owners and drivers of the bus and human hauler involved in the accident, and the helper of the human hauler.

Assistant Sub-inspector Yousuf Miah of Bonpara Highway Police Station filed the case on Saturday night with Lalpur Police Station, said Sub-inspector Tarikul Islam of the police station, also investigation officer of the case.

The accident took place when the Bogura-bound bus of 'Challenger Paribahan' from Pabna hit the human-hauler (locally named as leguna) carrying 15 passengers around 4:10 pm, leaving 13 passengers of the human-hauler dead on the spot and 15 bus travellers injured.

The rest two succumbed to their injuries at a local hospital.
