Drives to identify building code violators continues

Rajdhani Unnayan Kartripakkha (RAJUK) and Fire Service on Tuesday jointly conducted drives against the building code violators for the second consecutive day in the city.

The inspection team started the drives in the city’s Dhanmondi, Uttara and Banani areas around 11:00am as a part of identifying the building constructed violating the building code.

A three-member team, led by Fire Service’s Deputy Assistant Director of Dhaka Zone-10 (Uttara), Manikuzzaman inspected two buildings in city’s Uttara area as filling of the report at noon, reports BSS.

After inspecting the Mascot Plaza and North Tower in the area, Manikuzzaman said that they identified the buildings as very risky while they found lack of sufficient fire safety measures and emergency exit there.

He said notices were issued asking the respective owners of the buildings for taking necessary measures to comply the building code, adding that they also threatened sealing off the buildings if the owners fail to do so.

Another team of RAJUK, is also conducting drives in city’s Dhanmondi area where they found that some building owners handing over the flats to the clients without taking safety certificates from the RAJUK and Fire Service and conducting commercial activities in the residential area.

“We issued notice urging the building owners to stop the commercial activities and take certificates from the RAJUK and Fire Service within 15 days. If they fail to do so, we will take legal action against them” Shah Alam, a director of RAJUK, said.

Meanwhile, another RAJUK team also conducted the inspection in the city’s Banani area.

On Monday, RAJUK started inspecting buildings in the capital to identify structures that have violated building code.
