Harvest of new potato is going on in Bogura district amid labourer crisis.

A good number of farmers said they are passing busy time harvesting their produce from morning till evening.

"Some cultivators hired farm labourers from adjacent areas of the districts at a higher pay", they added.

"If we cannot harvest the crop timely, we will incur heavy loss", they further said.

According to the DAE, potatoes were cultivated on 65,000 hectares of land in the district this season. Hagrai Kathilal, Patna, Pakri and other varieties of potato production is gaining momentum.

Each maund of newly-harvested potato is being sold at Tk 600 to Tk 800 in the retail market and Tk 600 to Tk 650 in the wholesale markets.

Deputy Director of DAE Md Abul Kalam Azad said farmers have achieved a bumper production of potato. They also expect a fair price of the popular item.
