First coronavirus patient detected in Rajshahi

The first coronavirus case was reported in Puthia upazila of Rajshahi on Sunday, said an official.

The patient is a male aged 50 hailing from Bograpara village in the upazila, reports UNB.

The patient returned from Narayanganj on April 4 and hid himself in his house, said Puthia Health and Family Planning Officer Dr Nazma Akhter.

His samples were taken when he came to Upazila Health Complex on April 9 and later he was found positive, she said.   

Civil Surgeon Dr Enamul Haque also confirmed the matter.

Meanwhile, Bangladesh on Sunday recorded the highest number of coronavirus cases in one day as 139 more people tested positive for the virus, raising the total number to 621.

Besides, four more people died from the virus during the period which has raised the total death toll to 34.
