Clash over land kills 2 in Bagerhat

Two people died and 10 others injured in a clash between two groups of villagers over a disputed land at Sonakhali village in Morelganj upazila on Friday.

The deceased were Polash Sheikh, 40, son of Shahajahan Sheikh of Ambari village and Ibrahim Sheikh, 45, son of Torab Ali Sheikh of Patabari village of the upazila.

Pankaj Chandra Roy, superintendent of Bagerhat police, said that there had been long standing dispute between Rahim Khan and Shahidul Islam Khan over ownership of one bigha land in the village.

As a sequel to the enmity, supporters of Shahidul Khan and Rahim Khan locked in a fierce clash around 9:00am over harvesting paddy from the disputed land, leaving the two dead on the spot and 10 others injured.

Of the injured, two were taken to Khulna Medical College Hospital while four other were admitted to Morelganj health complex, says a UNB report.

On information, police rushed to the spot and brought the situation under control.

SP Pankaj Chandra Roy also visited the spot and six people were detained for interrogation.
