100-year-old Moriamjan returns home disappointed

Moriomjan, a 100-year old woman, waited on the Deputy Commissioner office's corridor in Chandpur Sadar on Thursday morning with a govt slip in hand in the hope of getting relief rice — FE Photo

A 100- year-old Moriomjan lives in a shanty on the premises of Baghabariin Palkandi area in Moishadi village under Chandpur Sadar. She came to Deputy Commissioner (DC) office on Thursday morning and waited theretill afternoon (2.30 pm) with agovt slip in hand (given by a man)in the hope of getting relief rice from the DC.Earlier, shecame to know that Sheikh Hasina had sent relief rice for the poor and destitute.

Accordingly, to get a few kilograms of rice, she (a faster)came and waited on the corridor of DC officebut in vain. She did not know to whom she would ask for relief rice of Sheikh Hasina. She never came here.When this correspondent accosted her, she said, she had come here to get relief rice of Sheikh Hasina from DC.Then being disappointed , she went back after 2 pm.

Narrating her long tale, she said, being helpless andhomeless, due to erosion by Dakatia river in Kalirchar area, she has moved to this land (Moishadi)to live and hasbeen survivingthrough begging since after independence.

She has said her husband died long ago.She does not get Govt old people's allowance. She has no sons but two husband deserted daughters in this world but they can't take care of her as they survive in Dhaka by working as domestic helps. She camehere with a great hope and aspiration to get relief rice but was disappointed. At last she left for home with slow steps with bent body due to senile decay.

ADC General Abdullah Al Mahmud Jaman has said, district administration led by DC Anjana Khan Majlish has so far distributed relief packs containing (5/7 kgs)coarse rice ( as gift from Prime Minister) to over four thousand poor workless and destitute families in 8th phases so that they can overcome corona pandemic situation at Chandpur District Stadium.

Even, Hijras(3rd genders), country boat people, physically challenged people, blind people and street beggars are not left out from this assistance and help to overcome corona pandemic situation.Despite repeated calls, the local Moishadi UP Chairman MoriruzzamanManik's cell phone was found switched off.

It is hoped by all that this destitute elderly woman should not be deprived of govt allowance for old people andrelief's rice of PM Sheikh Hasina. She is looking forward to getting this food assistancejust for survival.
