Welfare visions of the US administration led by President Joe Biden and the government led by Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina are similar. So, the ties between these two countries are expected to reach to a new height under the new US administration, said Foreign Minister Dr A K Abdul Momen on Sunday.
This has been evident, as the US has rejoined the Paris Agreement on combating the climate change.
He also hoped that the Biden administration will look into the allegations of genocide against Rohingyas by Myanmar security forces.
The foreign minister said these during an award-giving ceremony, organised virtually by the American Chamber of Commerce, Bangladesh (AmCham).
The ceremony was organised to announce the winners of the AmCham Frontline Journalism Award.
A total of 30 journalists, including Senior Reporter of The Financial Express (FE) Monira Munni and Staff Reporter of the FE Saif Uddin, won the award.
The minister noted that the journalists played a pivotal role in combating the Covid-19 pandemic in Bangladesh through creating awareness and presenting the actual scenario to mass people.
But sometimes media preferred to depict the negative news more instead of the positive ones, he repented.
According to Mr Momen, poverty and dark side were given more priority (in media) than success and positive change.
That is why the stories on working women breaking bricks are prominently featured, but the success stories in IT and education sectors are overlooked, he noted.
The foreign minister also urged the journalists to be as transparent as possible instead of presenting their 'subjective viewpoints'.
The US Ambassador in Bangladesh Earl Robert Miller was the guest of honour in the programme.
He said the US has been supporting the Bangladesh media for long through organising various types of exchange programmes, training and workshops.
Throughout the world, the journalists present truth, which may be unpleasant for the governments. But it is essential for ensuring transparency and accountability, he noted.
AmCham President Syed Ershad Ahmed said when the impact of the coronavirus pandemic on the country's socio-economic lives could not be predicted thoroughly, the journalists provided ground-level information to help the policymakers understand the real scenario.
They helped fighting misinformation and rumours, which was highly needed, he added.
AmCham Vice President Syed Kamal hosted the ceremony.
