Thrust on restructuring education system to uproot militancy

Speakers at a programme in the city on Saturday stressed the need for restructuring the entire education system, especially madrasa education, to thwart militancy in the country.

They said modernisation of education must be given priority and at the same time, measures will have to be taken to make people aware about the activities of militancy and its impact on the society.

They made the comments while speaking at a programme organised to unveil the cover of a book 'Bangladeshey Moulabad : Jongibader Rajnaitik Arthanitir Andar-Bahir' by Prof Dr Abul Barakat.

Former president of Bangladesh Economic Association (BEA) Dr Moinul Islam chaired the programme while language movement veteran Ahmed Rafique spoke as the chief guest.

Barrister Amirul Islam, former chairman of the National Human Rights Commission Dr Mizanur Rahman, Pankaj Bhattacharjee, Mamunur Rashid, BSMMU vice chancellor Prof Dr Kamrual Hasan Khan and chairman of the Economics Department of Dhaka University Dr Shafiquzzaman, among others, took part in the discussion.

Ahmed Rafique said imperialism is the main source of militancy which is flourishing centring the distorted philosophy of religion.

He said education system from top to bottom will have to be restructured, he said, adding that the madrasa education will have to be modernised, reports BSS.
